What players physically do

Everything below happens in the world, with your character, where other players can see it.

How the system works

How OPS POS Systems's part of the world fits together — and what breaks when it doesn't.

OPS POS Systems

What it does

OPS POS is the till in a store: staff ring up products, the customer pays by card (tapping their phone on the card reader) or cash, gets a receipt, and the store's stock, takings, staff hours and loyal customers are all tracked.

The kit

A terminal plus a card reader, cash drawer, receipt printer, barcode scanner and customer display. Everything within a few metres of the terminal joins that till.

Money

Card payments go to the business account less a small processing fee to OPS POS. Cash goes into the drawer until a boss cashes up. The POS software licence is billed to the business account every period.

Shops

A till set up inside a shop runs that shop: what customers buy from the shop assistant goes to the business too, and customers without cash can pay by card.

Every job

Every job OPS POS Systems does. Open one to see who it's for, what the customer pays, what the engineer earns, the certificate needed, the parts used and exactly how the server checks the work was really done. A job is only paid when its check passes.

POS installation

POS installation & support

Fit OPS POS tills on store counters and keep them selling.

Overview

OPS POS Systems sells stores their point of sale: a terminal (the till's screen and software), a card reader for card and contactless phone payments, a cash drawer, a receipt printer, a barcode scanner and a customer-facing display. Everything within a few metres of the terminal joins that till. Once fitted, a boss of the business walks up to the terminal and sets it up — from then on staff clock in and ring up sales, card payments land in the business account (less the processing fee OPS POS charges) and cash goes into the drawer until a boss cashes up.

Beside the terminal.

Barcode scanner

Health & safety — hazards and controls

Trailing cables

Staff and customers trip over cables behind the counter.

Route cables under the counter and clip them; never across the walkway.

Cash handling

An open drawer during an install invites theft.

Never open a live drawer; only the store's staff handle the cash.

Card data

Card and customer details are private.

Never write down or photograph card details or the store's reports.

What goes wrong if it's done badly

Peripheral too far from the terminal

It doesn't join the till — e.g. no card reader means card payments are greyed out.

Card reader facing the cashier

Customers can't reach it; turn it to face the counter's customer side.

Fitted before accepting

It isn't counted.
