POS installation & support
Fit OPS POS tills on store counters and keep them selling.
Overview
OPS POS Systems sells stores their point of sale: a terminal (the till's screen and software), a card reader for card and contactless phone payments, a cash drawer, a receipt printer, a barcode scanner and a customer-facing display. Everything within a few metres of the terminal joins that till. Once fitted, a boss of the business walks up to the terminal and sets it up — from then on staff clock in and ring up sales, card payments land in the business account (less the processing fee OPS POS charges) and cash goes into the drawer until a boss cashes up.
Jobs this covers
pos_install, pos_lane, pos_reader, pos_support — certificate: POS installation (recommended)
The equipment — what everything does
POS terminal
The till itself: touchscreen and POS software (products, stock, staff hours, loyalty, reports).
In game: /towers → OPS POS → Terminal. Put it on the counter facing the cashier.
Card reader
Takes card and contactless phone payments (OPS Pay).
In game: /towers → OPS POS → Card reader, on the counter facing the customer, beside the terminal.
Cash drawer
Holds the float and the takings; opens on cash sales.
In game: Under or next to the terminal, front towards the cashier.
Receipt printer
Prints a receipt (an item) for the customer.
In game: Beside the terminal.
Barcode scanner
Scan products straight into the sale (the till beeps).
In game: In its cradle beside the terminal.
Customer display
Shows the customer their basket and total while they're rung up.
In game: On the counter facing the customer.
Tools & PPE
Engineer laptop & console cable
Configures routers, NVRs and servers, runs speed tests and opens OPS Hub.
RJ45 crimper & cable tester
Fits RJ45 plugs onto CAT6 and proves all eight cores are connected in the right order.
Label printer
Labels both ends of every cable and port so the next engineer knows what is what.
Standalone servers: tools are in your van (OPS Work → My van & tools). Items servers: collect them — and the job’s parts — at an OPS depot.
Step by step
Agree with the store where the till goes: cashier side, customer side, a socket nearby.
Put the terminal on the counter facing the cashier.
Card reader and customer display facing the customer, drawer, printer and scanner beside the terminal — all within a few metres.
Run CAT6 from the terminal to the store's network and tidy the cables under the counter.
Open the terminal: the set-up screen lists every piece of kit it found — they should all be ticked.
Show the boss how to set up the till, add products and clock staff in. Then press Check / Complete on the job.
Health & safety
Trailing cables
Risk: Staff and customers trip over cables behind the counter.
Control: Route cables under the counter and clip them; never across the walkway.
Cash handling
Risk: An open drawer during an install invites theft.
Control: Never open a live drawer; only the store's staff handle the cash.
Card data
Risk: Card and customer details are private.
Control: Never write down or photograph card details or the store's reports.
In game you confirm these in a risk assessment before starting. Skipping them on risky work can cause a fall or a shock — and it’s logged as a safety incident.
When it’s not done correctly
Peripheral too far from the terminal
It doesn't join the till — e.g. no card reader means card payments are greyed out.
Card reader facing the cashier
Customers can't reach it; turn it to face the counter's customer side.
Fitted before accepting
It isn't counted.
